Crispy Fried Cheese Bites


Ingredients:
- 800 g (about 2 blocks) semi-hard cheese (Halloumi, Mozzarella, Kefalotyri, or even a firm white cheese)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (or fine semolina for extra crunch)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
- Fresh parsley or oregano, chopped (for garnish)
- Olive oil or vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Cheese
- Cut the cheese into thick rectangles or squares (about 2–3 cm thick).
- Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture (important for crispiness).
- Breading Station
- Place flour in one bowl.
- Beaten eggs in another.
- Mix breadcrumbs, oregano, thyme, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder in a third bowl.
- Coat the Cheese
- Dredge each cheese piece in flour (shake off excess).
- Dip in beaten egg.
- Roll in breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.
- For extra crunch: repeat egg + breadcrumb coating once more.
- Fry
- Heat ½ cup oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
- Place cheese bites in hot oil and cook 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve
- Sprinkle with fresh herbs.
- Serve hot with honey drizzle, marinara, or garlic dip.
